General Dentistry Thornhill ON
General dentistry is uniquely oriented toward the prevention and control the progression of disease. At a routine visit to your family dentist, you will probably have a thorough examination of your mouth (including teeth, gums, and other structures), a professional cleaning, and a discussion about your dental (and overall) health.
DENTAL CHECK-UPS & HYGIENE
A regular dental check-up is important as they help keep your teeth and gums healthy. A regular check-up will help prevent tooth decay, prevent plaque, gum disease and save money. At your dental check-up, Dr. Neda kadivar will check for any cavities, x-ras might be taken to detect cavities between your teeth, check for plaque and tartar and health of your gums. Dr. Neda Kadivar can also help you address any dental hygiene concerns you may have.
When there is a decay (hole) in the tooth, the decayed part should be removed before filling material is placed in the tooth to restore the shape of the tooth.
Traditional dental restoratives, or fillings, may include gold, porcelain, or composite. Newer dental fillings including ceramics and composites mimic the appearance and shade of natural teeth. These compounds, often called composite resins, are typically used on the front teeth where a natural appearance is important. There are two different kinds of fillings: direct and indirect. Direct fillings are fillings placed into a prepared tooth in a single visit. Indirect fillings generally require two or more visits. These fillings include inlays, onlays and veneers fabricated with ceramics in the laboratory. Dr. Neda Kadivar will discuss the best options for restoring your teeth depending on your needs.
ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Endodontic or Root Canal Therapy, may be required on a tooth if the dental pulp (consisting of the nerve and blood supply within the centre of the tooth and its roots) is infected or inflamed. Inflammation or infection can be precipitated by a deep cavity, large deep fillings, trauma, cracks in the tooth, extreme wear, or gum disease. Root canal treatment is highly successful and usually lasts a lifetime, although on occasion, a tooth will have to be retreated due to new infections.
If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, Dr. Neda Kadivar’s first instinct is to try and save the tooth. But when there’s too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, the tooth may need to be extracted — or removed without the need for major surgery.
Teeth grinding at night, known as bruxism, can be a serious threat to your oral health, as well as cause jaw and neck pain and headaches. The wear and tear inflicted on your teeth by grinding can be reduced or stopped with a nightguard.
Many people who notice chipped or cracked teeth, but don’t remember when the injury occurred, damaged their teeth while they were sleeping. Grinding or clenching your teeth during the night will cause your teeth to chip, crack and even break. To keep you from seriously damaging your teeth, we recommend a dental appliance called a night-guard, which protects your teeth from grinding and clenching in your sleep. Our team takes great care in making sure you have a proper fit to prevent pain in your jaw joint.

If your child plays sports or other similar activities, mouth guards are a great way to protect their teeth from potential injury. They are easy to clean, come in many color combinations and are custom made to fit comfortably in your child’s mouth.
